Maternal Instinct

Maternal Instinct takes the Documentary / Crime route and wastes little time pretending life is going to remain orderly. Here, reality does most of the heavy lifting, which is often unsettling enough without embellishment. The IMDb crowd seems broadly convinced, which is more than can be said for a lot of modern entertainment. The real question is whether the movie can keep its nerve once the setup is established — because a good premise is easy; landing the thing without driving into a hedge is the difficult bit.
